When you Google your service or product, where does your business show up? In today’s digital world, every business, regardless of size, must understand the importance of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Unfortunately, many small businesses lose out on countless opportunities because they aren’t familiar with some simple SEO tools available to them. To help remedy the issue, we recently hosted an event to help business bridge the digital gap – “Stop Hiding Your Business: Get found on Google or be forgotten forever!”
SEO is a complex topic when you start talking about the algorithms used by search engines, so we understand why people try to avoid it altogether. While we don’t want to give away every SEO secret we shared at the workshop, for anyone unable to attend the event, we have three simple tips that can help boost your search engine ranking.
When you hear social media, think of the major players: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Google+. Creating a business profile on each platform is completely free and allows you to share relevant content with both current and potential customers. Not only is social media an easy way to share information, but it’s also a great way to get more traffic on your website. Social media is not a replacement for your own business’s website, but it’s a good start for building your online presence.
One of the first major steps in building your online presence is getting your business verified. All major search engines provide instructions on how to prove you’re a real business, including Google My Business and Bing Places for Business. The verification process involves contact with the business via phone call or postcard and submitting a short application with important business information. Getting your business verified makes it quick and easy for customers to contact you.
For the social media naysayers out there, listen up! Analytics are easy to track, and the insights are invaluable. If you can’t measure how effective your efforts are, what’s the point? From this data, you can see what kind of online content is generating the biggest buzz, driving the most people to contact your business, how they’re getting to your website, and how they use your content. The biggest mistake most businesses make is simply gathering this information, but never utilizing it. Start benchmarking key metrics for your business’s goals and adapt to trends as you go.
These tips are just the beginning of boosting your SEO. If you’re ready to launch your online presence but don’t know where to go next, let us help! Nexcore members have access to all kinds of valuable information to grow their business. Keep an eye out for our next SEO workshop and other events.
